Learning Outcome 2

I used a total of four sources in my Project 3 final essay. I used my sources to support the idea that loved ones are often prioritized over others during times of crisis – like the pandemic we are facing today and the pandemic they faced in 1918. For one of my sources, I used it to support a claim that people are still willing to work to help their family and others even if that means putting their own health at risk. I used this source in combination with one of my other sources. I used Ashley Nault’s narrative to discuss how she reordered her values to focus on her family. But I also used her narrative to show that her mother is still working in the hospital even though she cannot see her family at the moment as a result of her job. I connected her mother working through this pandemic to another narrative from a 1918 flu pandemic survivor. For the claim that members of a family are still working to support their family, I compared the two mothers from both narratives because they are both still working to support the family through this hard time. I also wanted to use another source to discuss the parallels of family values from now to then. For this claim, I connected Ashley’s narrative to a different narrative from a flu survivor. Another claim I made was that we also tend to focus on our friend relationships because we tend to crave interactions with people outside of our family and those we live with. I used Madelyn Chu’s narrative to support this claim. I went further and added how I relate to this narrative and long for simple human interactions. This paragraph used a good combination of her words as well as my words. I did not use another source to compare the parallels of this friend connection but rather I used my own experience as a source to explain to the reader how I felt about this situation.
